The Secret to Quiet Work Time? Understanding Your Dog’s Energy Peaks

Dogs have natural rhythms to their energy levels throughout the day, and understanding them can make life (and work) much easier.

Most dogs have two peak activity windows—one in the morning and another in the early evening. These bursts of energy are driven by their natural instincts: in the wild, dawn and dusk were prime times for hunting and exploration. Between these peaks, dogs tend to nap, especially in the afternoon.

So, how can you use this to your advantage? Start the day with a solid walk, play session, or training exercise to burn off that morning energy. A mentally and physically satisfied dog is more likely to settle down afterward, giving you uninterrupted work time. Midday, when they naturally nap, is another great window for deep focus.

Then, as the evening zoomies hit, embrace the chance to move—whether it’s a walk, playtime, or enrichment activities. Syncing your schedule with your dog’s natural energy flow helps both of you stay productive and balanced.
