🚫🐕 Why You Should Think Twice Before Asking Your Dog to "Sit" 🐾🚫

We all love to teach our dogs basic commands, but sometimes the "sit" command isn't the best choice for every situation. Here’s why:

1️⃣ Pain in the Hips: Many dogs, especially as they age, can experience hip pain or discomfort. Unfortunately, they can't always tell us, but asking them to "sit" repeatedly can put unnecessary strain on their joints and cause them more discomfort. Sitting might not be the most comfortable position for all dogs, and forcing them into it can lead to frustration or worse, injury.

2️⃣ Stress & Triggers: Asking your dog to "sit" can unintentionally trap them in a position that’s too close to something that makes them anxious or stressed (like a loud noise, another dog, or a strange person). A dog in a sitting position has less mobility to move away from stressors and might feel trapped, heightening their anxiety (and often heightening reactions.) When a dog is standing, they can move freely and handle things in their own way.

3️⃣ It's Not Always Necessary: Not every moment calls for a "sit" command. Dogs can be just as calm, well-behaved, and focused while standing. Letting your dog choose the position that feels best for their body (whether standing, lying down, or any other comfortable position) shows that you respect their needs and comfort. Standing dogs can still be relaxed, engaged, and ready for whatever comes next.

So, next time you’re with your dog, remember that calm behavior is what matters most, not the position they’re in. A dog standing confidently or lying down peacefully can be just as calm and composed as a sitting dog. Trust their instincts and let them move in a way that feels best for them! 💖🐾 "
